Mabeline

I thought I'd try an easy drop with Mabel tonight. That didn't quite work out. She struck a track & I could tell it was going to be one of those nights. She was just screwing around on the ditch & I knew she'd be there for an hour. I just drove around the section for a while and listened to the radio, stopping occasionally to listen for her. Finally I heard her treed way back to the southwest behind the old folks place. I almost threw up a couple of times as I walked across a field of deep snow. When I finally got to the tree I didn't see a coon. This surprised me & I kept looking for a long time. Finally I saw it, one tree over. Oh well. I walked pretty slow back out, I'm out of shape.

Spring?

Finally got tired of sitting around the house & went out Thursday night. I took Roy up to the Easy Spot. THe new house has electricity but nobody is in it yet. So, I went in the woods a little south of there. Roy struck a nice track somewhere by the first bend. He worked wets by northwest and then swung south. A nice track for the conditions. Speaking of which, the snow is still pretty deep, heart attack material. Anyway, Roy treed on the southwest edge. When I got there I was plenty tired. It was a big den. There was a pretty good path worn in the snow leading up to this tree. I didn't see a coon but it was believable enough. I didn't pet Roy but I didn't scold him either. That was a fairly healthy walk back to the truck. I was going to take Mabel tonight, but I may wait for more thawing.
